Dear friend,
As the days get colder and the daylight hours get shorter, our bodies remind us of our need to rest, to reflect, to breathe deeply. It is this period of stillness, of hibernation, that allows us to digest all that has happened this year. In this time of reflection, we have an opportunity to draw lessons from all we have experienced and witnessed, as we rebuild our fortitude to prepare for whatever comes ahead.
For many of us, this year has been particularly intense, and has left us with a lot to process. Especially for those of us with the sensitivity to feel deeply for the world around us, we may find ourselves feeling more tired or more drained than usual. This is okay. It is the wisdom of our bodies calling on us to rest, reflect, and digest.
These winter months offer us a beautiful reminder of our vulnerability, and our deeply human need for community and connection. The hyper-individualistic society can move us to forget how much we truly need one another; how much we are truly shaped and defined by our interdependence and interconnectedness.
At the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, we hold that we are strongest when we recognize the interwovenness of our needs and when we stand together to ensure our collective needs are met. As we look ahead to increasingly uncertain times, we find solace in the strength and support of our friends and allies, and we ground ourselves in the power of our collective movement ecosystem.
This year, the RMPJC has focused on coalition building, movement empowerment, and issue intersectionality as our primary areas of focus. We have served as a resource center for nonviolence trainings – helping to upscale our movement allies for whatever comes next. We have worked to beautify our coalitions’ events and actions through the transformational power of art. We have worked to empower new voices in the movement that have been historically excluded from discourse, by making tools and resources available for advocacy. We have worked in multiple coalitions at the local, state, and national level to uplift a unified call for the abolition of nuclear weapons and power plants, justice for our immigrant and Indigenous communities, and liberation for Palestine and all people suffering under colonial occupation and oppression.
Just as winter reminds us to rest, it also reminds us that it is vital to keep the fire burning and hold space for all to be warmed by it.
Help us keep the fire burning by becoming a monthly sustainer; even a monthly donation of $5-25 goes a long way for maintaining the sustainability of our organization and our efforts! This year, during Colorado Gives month (Nov. 1 - Dec. 9), any new sustaining donation will be matched 100%!
