2018 PEACEMAKER OF THE YEAR AWARD RECIPIENTS

Peacemaker of the Year Sonia Marquez

Sonia became involved in her community at a young age, working with youth groups, community projects and learning about her culture and the importance of having a sense of belonging. Sonia has been involved with the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) since 2009.

Lifetime Achievement Theresa Halsey

Courtesy of Boulder Weekly/Sydney Worth. Theresa has been a health & mental researcher, a k-12 educator, college counselor, and long time radio producer. Theresa has been with KGNU Community Radio since 1983. Currently, she is the producer and host of Indian voices on KGNU.

Youth Peacemakers of the Year Never Again - CO

Never Again - Colorado is an organization run by motivated youth dedicated to putting an end to gun violence. The group has planned and directed multiple events, including Colorado's March for Our Lives. The group is dedicated to dismantling injustices regarding gun violence and working towards making our schools and communities a safer place.

Volunteers of the Year Doug Rippey

Doug Rippey and Duffy Keith are both excellent musicians and sound technicians. In addition to playing music and being a sound engineer, Doug is a musicologist extraordinaire knowing the history of folk music inside out. He is able to tell stories about songs that have been written and about the authors of those songs. He also performed with Cesar Chavez and the farm workers adding his voice and music to that struggle.

Duffy Keith

Duffy has been a part of the music world his entire life. He has played with many different bands and played many different genres of music. He also is an excellent carpenter and mechanic as well as being an excellent sound engineer. Doug and Duffy both volunteer their talents for many groups in the community. They add music to many events and provide sound technician Expertise to many groups in the community. Rocky Mountain Peace & Justice center has been fortunate to have the benefit of their talents for many years.

Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center will celebrate their 35th Anniversary in conjunction with the 21st Annual Peacemaker of the Year Awards Ceremony and Dinner When: Saturday, October 27th, 2018, 5 PM - 9:30 PM. Where: Unity of Boulder Spiritual Center, 2855 Folsom St. Get your tickets today! The Peacemaker of the Year (PMY) Awards Ceremony and Dinner is an annual gathering held by RMPJC to honor and celebrate the work of peace and justice activists in the community and beyond. Be on the lookout for the release of our surprise musical performers, food and beer donors, and silent auction items. 5PM Silent auction and music by Gary Erb and Beverly Lyne 6 PM Vegan Dinner, prepared by RMPJC volunteers 6:50 PM Award Presentations 7:30 PM Cake by Beverly Lyne 8:30 PM Concert by musical guests Alcoholic beverages will be available for our guests 21+ throughout the evening.
