Weapons of Mass Destruction Use by U.S.

NEVER AGAIN

Today, Auguest 9th, is the 62nd anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Nagasaki.

On August 6th and 9th of 1945, the U.S. Government dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the only time in world history such nuclear weapons of mass destruction have been used, obliterating whole populations in a single blast.

Each year, the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center holds an event in remembrance of the victims of these horrific acts by our own government and to encourage all that we must end all activities related to nuclear weapons devclopment or threatened use by the U.S. Government or anyone else in the world, in order to promote peace and save our planet.

On Saturday, August 4th, RMPJC educated visitors to the Farmers Market in Boulder , showing them picures of the devastation resulting from the U.S. Government's actions with the atomic obliteration of the two cities in 1945, and distributed leaflets and petitions for people to sign that no new nuclear weapons be developed or used ever again in the United States or anywhere else in the world.

Photographs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were displayed at the Farmers' Market during the morning.

In addition, RMPJC presented "Unofficial Ballots--A National referendum on the Future of Nuclear Weapons," for citizens to vote on the US $150 billion plan to modernize the nuclear weapons complex and build new nuclear weapons. Participants were urged to vote and sign and RMPJC well send the ballots to Senators Allard and Salazar, and to Representative Udall or other representatives for visitors out of this congressional district. Later, during the Complex 2030 hearings, we'll present them to the Department of Energy. We also offered "Stop the Bombplex" postcards to be sent to Congress and to the Department of Energy.

As the Bush administration is suggesting a huge $20 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia that would include "advanced weaponry," not only for Saudi Arabia, but for the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and increased aid for Israel and Egypt, it becomes absolutely critical for nuclear activists to say, NO. RMPJC circulated a petition to sign to support the members of Congress who intend to fight this egregious plan. All this is related to US/Israel perceptions of Iran as a threat; and the increasing US push to attack Iran.is MUST be prevented.
