If you don't, who will?

OK, we're not Lockheed Martin.

As the world's largest defense contractor, their revenues for 2006 were $39.6 BILLION. About 95% of that came from the U.S. Government, from out of our own pockets! Yes, they made fat profits selling F-16s and other weapons systems to countries in the Middle East and elsewhere, running nuclear weapons sites here at home that are leeching dangerous contaminants off-site, and taking over various government functions privatizing services without benefit of our public oversight. And further...

They also waste or misuse a lot of the billions they get on contract overruns, big parties and hefty donations to our elected officials to buy their support for war and not prosecuting them and other polluters who are poisoning water supplies in a number of our communities where they operate, including here in Colorado.

By contrast, we made, well, somewhat less than that. We are not profiting from the war, we are trying to stop it! pennies

We do not take government or big corporate money, and rely on grassroots support from our members and donors. We sell t-shirts and hold bakesales and have fundraisers in the community that take a lot of work, but are fun, and also get people off the couch and out of the house for a good cause. Why? Because we strive to be independent of the sources of the problems we are seeking to solve in the interests of peace, justice, local environmental protection and the general welfare of the planet! We pinch every penny and have many programs and activities paid for with the support we receive from our members and friends.

So if you value peace, democracy and safe drinking water, please consider supporting us with your tax-deductible contribution. And since we rely on a strong membership base, please also join us and become a monthly sustaining member of the Rocky Mountain Peace & Justice Center. Get involved, give of your time, help us with a donation (click on the green "Donate Now!" button on the right). Let's work to end this war, protect our communities and playgrounds from nuclear waste , prevent World War III and keep cancer-causing chemicals and radioactive substances out of our drinking water!

And hey, if you like animals, check out what we're doing to try to save ducks in Denver!
