Wednesday, April 9  BOULDER  A Middle East Series Event: "Jews of Conscience and the Future of Israel and Palestine" with Professor Marc Ellis In 1998 Ellis was appointed Professor of American and Jewish Studies at Baylor University;  the next year he was named University Professor of American and Jewish Studies. In 1999 he founded Baylor University's Center for American and Jewish Studies, which was renamed The Center for Jewish Studies in 2006. Professor Ellis has authored sixteen books and edited five others, with a new book, Reading the Torah Out Loud: A Journey of Lament and Hope released this year, published by Augsburg Fortress Press. At 7 p.m. at Math 100, CU Boulder. Free.

Thursday, April 10 BOULDER  A Middle East Series Event: "Iraq: Invasion, Occupation, and Prospects for Peace and Democracy" with Sami AlBanna, an Iraqi-born American. Dr. Sami AlBanna has been an activist for more than 40 years on issues relating to social justice, equity, human rights, and truly democratic processes in building a peaceful Middle East. He was born and educated through college in Baghdad, Iraq.  He completed his doctorate degree from Columbia University, NY City where he also served as a faculty member. By profession, Sami is a lead architect of complex systems involving advanced technology and extensive organizational change.  At Humanities 150, CU Boulder at 7 p.m. Free.

A Middle East Series Event:  BATTLEFIELD WITHOUT BORDERS-AN EVENING WITH ACTIVIST POET DAVID SMITH-FERRI . Smith-Ferri, peace poet and activist, will report from his trip to Amman, Jordan, where he learned first-hand about conditions Iraqi people face in their home country and the bleakness of refugee life in Amman.  He will also read from his book, Battlefield Without Borders.  Through slides and poetry, he will bring the Iraqi people he has met into our presence, portraying their resilience, courage, and decency.  No charge, but David will ask for donations for medical assistance for Iraqi refugees in Jordan and Syria. 7 p.m. at the Friends Meeting House at 1825 Upland, Boulder.

Monday, April 28 BOULDER Veteran Palestinian-American journalist and former Al-Jazeera producer Ramzy Baroud will speak in Boulder on "The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza". Baroud is author and editor of PalestineChronicle.com and the author of "The Second Palestinian Intifada: A Chronicle of a People's Struggle". He has been a guest speaker at many top universities around the world and a guest on numerous television programs. His work has been published in hundreds of newspapers and journals worldwide. He is originally from the Nuseir Camp in Gaza. The event will take place at Humanities 1B50, CU Boulder at 7 p.m. and is free. For info, 303-444-6981x2.
